About the Program

The Certified Usability Tester Foundational Level (CUTL) is a new foundation level software tester certification that has been created by the German Testing Board (GTB). Usability testing refers to evaluating software by testing it with representative users. Typically users will attempt to complete typical tasks while observers watch, listen and takes notes. The goal is to identify any usability problems, collect data and determine the users’s satisfaction with the product.

This course is aimed at anyone involved in software testing who wishes to broaden their knowledge of usability testing or anyone who wishes to start a specialist career in usability testing. The qualification is also aimed at anyone involved in usability engineering who wishes to understand usability testing.

Course Objectives

Candidates are expected to:

  • Understand the basic concepts of usability and usability testing.
  • Identify and classify the severity of usability risks and potential accessibility violations in a given product at any stage of a development cycle.
  • Cite relevant standards for usability, user experience, and accessibility and verify their implementation in a given product.
  • Set up procedures so that stated usability, user experience and accessibility goals may be verified in practice for a given product.
  • Design and monitor the implementation of a test plan for achieving stated usability, user experience and accessibility goals.
  • Explain the rationale, process and results of usability, user experience and accessibility evaluations to non-specialist stakeholders.

Pre-Requisites

Nil

The ISTQB Certified Tester Foundation Level (ISTQB CTFL) certification is recommended.

Training and Exam Duration

Training: 2 days

The course material shall be issued on the first day of the course during registration.

 

Exam: 60 minutes (1 hour) duration

Exam Pattern

The Usability Tester Foundation Level exam consists of 40 multiple choice questions that total to 40 marks.

The questions are of differing difficulty and therefore assigned differing amounts of points. The exam is closed-book, i.e. no materials are allowed to be used. The candidate must achieve at least 65% (26 out of 40) of the total score possible.
