Presented by Rajarshi Kumar Das,High Maturity Lead Appraiser, from Cyber Q Consulting, India
One day Tutorial on August 15th, 2008
Tutorial Code: 403F

Abstract:

Organizations often encounter bottlenecks while interpreting CMMI practices. This sometimes leads to inflexible processes that are difficult for project teams to use. At times, this leads to processes that provide no value addition to the projects and to the organization.

This tutorial attempts to discuss a practical approach to implementing CMMI Maturity Levels 2 and 3. The focus shall be to move away from the theory and to provide the participants with suggestions on how to deploy the framework in a pragmatic manner. The presenter, who is a High Maturity Lead Appraisal, shall share the common issues, problems and constraints that he has encountered during his consulting and appraisals..

The one day tutorial shall also discuss the role of ML2 and ML3 practices in the implementation of ML4 and ML5. The relationship between process areas at ML2 and ML3 (like MA, OPD, IPM) and those at ML4 and ML5 will be explored. One important area of discussion will be the issues that ML3 companies are likely to face while moving to ML4 and ML5.

Some of the focus areas of the tutorial session include:

  • Project Management at ML2 versus Project Management at ML3
  • The Software Process Database – it importance and usage
  • Software Metrics
  • Product Audits
  • Generic practices and Institutionalization
  • The role of Statistical Techniques in High Maturity Implementations

The session is expected to be highly interactive with plenty of questions and sharing of experiences, both of the presenter and of the audience.
