Introduction to Personal Software Process (PSP) and Team Software Process (TSP)

The PSP/TSP framework is a measurement framework for collecting, analyzing, setting goals and monitoring performance at the individual and project level. This workshop is meant for Project managers and Senior management to get an overview of PSP/TSP, the benefits and ROI of adapting the framework across the company, the roadmap for implementing the PSP/TSP framework, the tools that can be used and case studies of companies who have adopted PSP/TSP.

The topics covered are:

  • Introduction to Personal Software Process
    • Size and Time Estimation in PSP using Statistical Process Methods
    • Task and Schedule Planning at Individual Levels
    • Defect Management at Individual levels
  • Introduction to Team Software Process
    • TSP Launch Process for comprehensive project planning
    • Quantitative Management of Quality and Schedule, the effect of one on the other
    • Earned Value Tracking of Schedule and PQI Tracking of Quality
  • Use of tool for collecting data and monitoring performance at individual and team level

Presenter’s Profile:

Dr. L. Rajaram, Watts Humphery Institute, India

Dr. Rajaram is the Director of the Watts Humphrey Software Quality Institute, Chennai. He is on the board of Advanced Information Services, Chennai. Dr. Rajaram is a PSP Instructor and TSP Coach authorized by the Software Engineering Institute, Carnegie Mellon University and has worked extensively to fulfill the mission of the Watts Humphrey of Software Quality Institute, namely, “Ushering in a National Culture of Software Engineering”.

Dr. Rajaram is a B.Tech (Hons) in Electronics and Communication Engineering from IIT Kharagpur and a PhD from BITS, Pilani in Software Engineering. He started his career with the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai, where he was involved in the development of Real time Defense systems for the Indian Air Force. He moved to the Department of Electronics, New Delhi where he lead a team of engineers in developing realtime systems for the Indian Navy.

In 1986, he turned an entrepreneur and ever since he has been on his own. He has rich experience in research, development, project management, corporate strategies, mentoring start-up companies, consultancy, training and education. He has managed many companies on whose board he has served. Dr. Rajaram has consulted for several companies and Government organizations in his individual capacity and was on the panel of UNIDO, Vienna as a Software Engineering Expert in 1993.

He was the Co-Leader and Leader of the Software Process Improvement Network, (SPIN) a voluntary body of software professionals in Chennai in the years 2000-2003. He continues to be an active member of executive committee of SPIN Chennai.

He pursues his research interests which include Software Quality, CMM, TSP, PSP, Software Process Maturity, Software Engineering, Object Oriented Analysis and Design, Customer Relationship Management and Business Response Systems and at a more hobby level, the enhancement of Software Productivity through the application of Neuroscience principles and knowledge.
