Project Management Office (PMO) Framework & Methodology : Tutorial Outline
Abstract:
In recent times, we have seen that whenever there is a need to dramatically enhance the efficiency of an organization or a business unit, an effective Project Management Office (PMO) holds the key. Though a new concept, most corporate organizations today have warmed up to and embraced this idea of having a PMO to spearhead the success of their various projects.
Project Management Offices can be of different types; however, one fact remains the same - all of them are endowed with more or less similar characteristics and life cycle stages. This workshop has been meticulously put together and enriched by the multitude of PMO experiences and learning during my tenure with the largest IT organisations. Though the components of a PMO vary, based on the need and objectives for which the PMO is being setup, the framework mentioned in this workshop can be tailored and used. For easy narration and understanding, the example taken is that of a PMO set up to manage the operation of a large IT engagement. This workshop will familiarise participants to some key terms and definitions used in the parley of a project management office. What follows is an introduction to various types of project management offices and their objectives.
The aim of the workshop is to provide an overview and an understanding of the workings of the various components of a typical PMO, and the step-by-step approach for setting up the same. Performance measurement metrics and case studies are illustrative and do not provide exhaustive lists.
