A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge - Third Edition   (PMBOK® Guide) by Project Management Institute

The PMBOK® Guide reflects the collaboration and knowledge of project management leaders who deliver business results. Successful project management is a constant advantage in the dynamic nature of today's organizations.

The PMBOK® Guide Book identifies the subset of the Project Management Body of Knowledge that is generally recognized as good practice. “Good practice” means that there is general agreement that the correct application of these skills, tools, and techniques can enhance the chances of success over a wide range of different projects. Good practice does not mean that the knowledge described should always be applied uniformly on all projects; the project management team is responsible for determining what is appropriate for any given project.

The PMBOK® Guide also provides and promotes a common glossary for discussing, writing, and applying project management. Such a standard glossary is an essential element of a profession.

Companies, non-profits, and government agencies around the world are turning to project management to achieve corporate strategic objectives. As recognition of the value of project management continues to grow, the PMBOK® Guide will become even more of an indispensable tool for practitioners across all organizations, industries, and regions.
